Festivals and Events
Windfest / Fête des vents
In the last weekend of June, as a way of officially launching the season, kiteboarding and windsurfing enthusiasts come together in the Shippagan and Acadian islands region in order to share their passion. This is an excellent opportunity for those wishing to become initiated into either of these sports.
Every year on July 1st, the municipality organizes an official Canada Day flag-raising ceremony. This activity takes place in the Parc du centenaire on DeGrâce Street.
New Brunswick’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Festival
The sea and its riches, the fishery, old seafarers with their stories... There is a vivid maritime heritage to celebrate and discover during New Brunswick’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Festival in Shippagan, the provincial capital of the commercial fishery. Enjoy the many activities at the Acadian Peninsula’s oldest festival: the blessing of the boats, deep-sea fishing, sporting events, theatre and much more.
August 15 Celebrations
Every year, the municipality, in cooperation with the Shippagan Aquarium and Marine Centre and local businesses, organizes a day of family activities to celebrate the Acadian people.
The 2008 edition of the Acadian Peninsula Book Fair will be held at the Sports Centre of the Université de Moncton, Shippagan Campus, from October 5 to 9, 2008. The promoters count on the presence of authors from Quebec in order to ensure the Fair’s success. A large number (some thirty invitations were extended) of authors, critics and Quebec literary names have been invited.
